Capitol plans to make Paglaum
regional dev't center for sports
BY CEDELF TUPAS

The Negros Occidental provincial government is planning to make the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City a regional development center for sports, Jose Marie Valencia, chief of staff of the Gov. Joseph Maraņon, said yesterday.

Valencia said the plan will be discussed with consultants on April 19, before Capitol representatives meet with Department of Education officials and Negros Occidental High School stakeholders.

Maraņon had announced earlier the provincial government's move to recover the sports stadium, which it had donated to the DepEd, because of its failure to maintain the facility.

The Asian athletes from Korea, China and Taiwan can go to Panaad and train during wintertime because it has the facilities and a good atmosphere, instead of training in the United States, he Valencia said.

Asked to react on the Philippine Sports Commission's willingness to help in the development of the Paglaum, Valencia said the Capitol welcomes any support from the private sector.

PSC chairman William "Butch" Ramirez expressed his interest to help in sprucing up the Paglaum, during a visit in Bacolod Friday.*CPT
