Members of the Bacolod City Hall Press Corps participated
in a week-long trip called "Business and Tourism Familiarization
and Study," April 2 to 9, a city hall press release said yesterday.
The group visited and studied the business and
tourism ventures of Kawit town, and the cities of Trece Martines
and Tagaytay, in Cavite province; Manila City, and Taguig town,
it also said.
The business and tourism establishments included
government-owned-and-controlled corporations and privately-owned-and-managed
ones.
The press release said that, based on the reporters'
experience and assessment, tourism can be a serious business to
generate revenues needed by local government units to deliver basic
services to the people, especially with the support and cooperation
of concerned sectors and individuals.
Oscar Palabyab, assistant for Tourism Services and
Regional Offices, said in a press conference, that Bacolod City
and Negros Occidental have much potential to tap in terms of developing
tourist destinations, the press release added.*

alumna gets
TOSP regional award
A graduate of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos
in Bacolod City has been chosen as one of the 2006 Ten Outstanding
Students of the Philippines in Region VI, at awarding rites, held
at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, in Iloilo City, recently, a press release
from the school said.
Ma. Kristina Alpon, who graduated with a BS Agriculture
degree, major in Animal Science, was also a recipient of the UNO-R
Leadership and University Loyalty awards, it also said.
Alpon, daughter of Crisanto and Luzviminda Alpon,
is also the outgoing chairperson of the UNO-R League of Governors
and outgoing governor of the School of Agriculture Student Council.
She has also been awarded by the UNO-R Office of the Vice President
for Student Welfare and Student Affairs, as one of the Outstanding
Student Leaders of the school, for year 2005 to 2006, the press
release added.*
