Dumaguete BIR
targets P984 M
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Bureau of Internal Revenue in Dumaguete City will use all legal remedies to achieve its target tax collection for this year.

Revenue District No. 79 considers the P984 million target collections a tall order for a small revenue district office. However, it is optimistic, it will achieve its goal with the cooperation of the taxpayers who, for years had been supporting the district office.

Taxpayers division chief Jose Senador, is urging local businessmen to increase their payment of taxes due the government by 30 percent.

The legal remedies includes issuance of warrants of garnishment to corporations, closure of business, surveillance operations on actual sales to find out if the actual income is reflected in their books.

Senador said that, last year, two out-of-town corporations eventually paid a substantial amount to the government after they were issued warrants of garnishment by the BIR. However, the bureau reminded all taxpayers that the deadline was moved to Monday, April 17 not this Saturday.

Jose Torralba, project director of the Panglao International Airport Development, said its operation is expected to generate revenues for the government in terms of tourist arrivals, not only Bohol, but for neighboring provinces in Cebu, Siquijor and Oriental Negros.

He said, the airport construction costs P3.2 billion.*JG
