10 LGUs urged to take
road safety steps
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Officials of 10 towns and cities of Negros Occidental have failed to submit their executive orders organizing their local road patrol teams and road safety task forces urged by Gov. Joseph Maraņon to prevent accidents, especially along their highways.

Vicfran Defante, Provincial Disaster Management Team head, said, so far, those who have submitted executive orders are: Bago City, Pulupandan, Valladolid, San Enrique, Pontevedra, Hinigaran, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Himamaylan City, Kabankalan City, Ilog, Cauayan, Sipalay City, Murcia, Silay City, Victorias City, Cadiz City, Sagay City, Escalante City, San Carlos City and Calatrava.

Toboso, Don Salvador Benedicto, Manapla, EB Magalona, Talisay City, La Carlota City, Binalbagan, La Castellana, Candoni, and Hinobaan were not on the list of those who had submitted their executive orders.

Maraņon yesterday said is urging the mayors of the 10 local governments to act on the matter.

He also said it is important that the Land Transportation Office strictly enforce the law requiring stalled vehicles to put up early warning devices to prevent accidents.

Maraņon said that in the fourth district of Negros Occidental Rep. Carlos Cojuangco has purchased a vehicle to tow stalled vehicles along the highway to prevent road accidents.*CPG
