NOHS gains semifinals

Doņa Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School and Negros Occidental High School have been assured of semifinal slots by scoring twin victories each yesterday in the Shakey's 18-Under Girls Volleyball Invitational League Negros Occidental Eliminations at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The La Carlota City-based DHSBNHS squad posted a 26-24, 25-17 triumph over St. Joseph's School-La Salle, before outlasting La Consolacion College-Main, 25-12, 19-25, 25-21, to improve to 6-0 with a game to go in the eliminations. NOHS escaped LCC-Main, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, before crushing the La Sallians, 25-13, 25-12, for a 4-2 slate. The NOHS volleybelles aim to finish the eliminations with five wins when they battle St. Benilde School at 10 a.m. today in Court 2, while Doņa Hortencia eyes an elimination round sweep when it goes up against USLS at 10 a.m. in Court 1.

Doņa Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School boosted its chances of booking a place in the final four when it trounced different rivals yesterday to improve to 3-2. DMLMHS smashed SBS, 25-15, 25-9, and St. Joseph's, 25-16, 25-13.

St. Benilde also posted a 3-2 slate after rallying past Bata National High School, 14-25, 25-21, 25-23, while La Salle survived BNHS, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20.

Doņa Monserrat tussles with BNHS at 9 a.m. today in Court 2, before taking on LCC-Main at 2 p.m. in Court 1. SJS-La Salle collides with LCC-Main at 9 a.m. in Court 1.

USLS has a 2-4 win-loss card, while Bata has not emerged victorious in the six games it has played in the tournament that is supported by Shakey's, Air Philippines, Mikasa, the official volleyball of the event, Toby's Sports, Dunkin Donuts and Asics.

The titlist in the Negros qualifying leg will play against the champions from Manila, Cebu and Iloilo in the Shakey's Tournament of Champions slated from June 1 to 3 in Manila. *CIT
