VMC officials get threats
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Officers and employees of Victorias Milling Co. have been receiving death threats, VMC president Abelardo Bugay said yesterday.

Bugay told the DAILY STAR the threats could be related to action taken by management on some personnel in relation to the loss of 500 bags of sugar from VMC.

Bugay in letters to Gov. Joseph Maraņon and Senior Supt. Charles Calima, Negros Occidental police provincial director, said the death threats have been coming in the form of letters, text messages or packages containing morbid things like live bullets. He said these things, as the police and military officers have informed them, are the handiwork of either left leaning organizations or syndicate groups to cause fear among their officers and employees.

Bugay asked for assistance from Maraņon and Calima to protect the VMC officers and employers against the unidentified would-be perpetrators who are causing fear the their company and surrounding communities.

Maraņon referred the matter to Calima for action. He said he asked Calima to assist the VMC management on the matter.

Calima said he will discuss the concern of Bugay with the security officer of VMC to see what action can be taken. He said the threats may be labor-related.*CPG
