The police arrested 45 minors in two successive days, April 4
and 5, in Victorias City, Negros Occidental for violation of curfew
ordinances.
Senior Supt. Modesto Sanson, Victorias police chief, yesterday
said the rounding up of minors roaming around during unholy hours,
is aimed at eliminating "fraternity wars" among them, and involvement
in petty crimes and drugs.
The Victorias police confiscated several "sulpak", or homemade
shotguns, and darts from minors involved in a "rumble" during the
weeklong charter anniversary celebration of Victorias. Of the 45
minors arrested, nine are female, Sanson said. They were detained
in various rooms at the Victorias police station.
Sanson said they were all freed after they and their parents
had attended a counseling session undertaken by personnel of the
Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Sanson warned parents that they will be required to pay fines
if their children are arrested again for a similar violation.
The curfew for minors in Victorias starts at 10 p.m. and ends
at 4 a.m., of the next day.
Sanson said they have not recorded any major crime in the
past few months.
Meanwhile, the newly-completed Community Police Assistance
Center of the police in Brgy. Gawahon, Victorias City, is now ready
for occupation.
Sanson said the blessing and inauguration, which is scheduled
within this month, is expected to be attended by Region 6 police
director Doroteo Reyes, Gov. Joseph Maraņon, Senior Supt. Charles
Calima, and Victorias City officials led by Mayor Severo Palanca
who had allocated funds for its construction last year.*GPB
