Ex-Slashers to see action in
NBA summer tourney

Coaches and team representatives of the squads that will see action in the 2006 Negros Basketball Association-Mayor's Cup Summer Basketball Tournament will have a final meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at the Dodong's Fastbreak of Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City.

The meeting will tackle the finalization of schedule, rules and regulations, and discuss the possible kinks that may arise during the tournament, NBA president Oscar "Dodong" Bascon said.

The program of the opening ceremonies, where Mayor Evelio Leonardia has been invited to be the guest speaker, will also be covered during the meeting, Bascon said.

Teams that will compete in the tournament that takes centerstage at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School are Ceres Liners, Toyota Bacolod-Iloilo Warriors, Sipalay Stingers and last year's runner-up JS Shell.

Defending champion Your Basketball Athletic Club-Emarken will skip the summer event.

Former Negros Slashers standouts Leo Bat-og, Carlos Sayon and John Lim, and former Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod dribblers Joemel Garrido and Christian Antiporda will don the of Ceres, while ex-West Negros College Mustangs cagers Joevert Gabayoyo, Arnold Laureņo and Ruel Balgos will play for the Sipalay Stingers.

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos men's collegiate basketball squad of coach Ireneo Morales will represent JS Shell in the event that has adopted a double elimination round format. *CIT
