MOA on health program
BY RENE GENOVE

A memorandum of agreement to promote the local health initiative in Oriental Negros will be signed soon between Mayors German Sarana of Bayawan, Leon Lopez of Sta. Catalina, and Beda Canamaque of Basay and Gov. George Aranaiz and a foreign health group.

The signing followed a commitment by the US-based non-profit corporation, Management Services for Health through its representative, Ted Hazard, to extend money and expertise to the existing, successful health initiative of the four local officials.

Under the proposed agreement, the MSH would integrate its Local Enhancement and Development Health Project to the STA. BAYABAS Integrated Local Health Zone of Oriental Negros.

The Dumaguete City police continue to face a blank wall in two hold-up incidents during the weekend involving a housewife and a warehouse.

Elisa Martin, 49, of Brgy. Motong was held up at about 12:50 p.m. Friday at the corner of Sta. Catalina and Locsin streets, while the liquefied petroleum gas warehouse in Tubod, was held up just after noon Sunday.

Martin said she had just withdrawn money from Metro Bank and was riding a pedicab when a motorcycle with three riders overtook the vehicle she was on, and ordered its driver to stop..

PPA to install equipment
in city passenger terminal

The Philippine Ports Authority will soon put up a baggage x-ray and walk-through metal detector at the temporary passenger terminal building at the Dumaguete City Port.

Noeme Calderon, PPA port manager said that the project in consonance with the International Seaport Facility Code is long overdue.

The project was stalled because of the lack of a permanent passenger terminal building, he said, adding that the construction of the passenger terminal in Dumaguete had been postponed several times due to objection from environmentalist groups. The renovation of the terminal is going on. It will be air-conditioned and will be manned by trained personnel.
