MOA on health program
BY RENE GENOVE

A memorandum of agreement to promote the local health initiative in Oriental Negros will be signed soon between Mayors German Sarana of Bayawan, Leon Lopez of Sta. Catalina, and Beda Canamaque of Basay and Gov. George Aranaiz and a foreign health group.

The signing followed a commitment by the US-based non-profit corporation, Management Services for Health through its representative, Ted Hazard, to extend money and expertise to the existing, successful health initiative of the four local officials.

Under the proposed agreement, the MSH would integrate its Local Enhancement and Development Health Project to the STA. BAYABAS Integrated Local Health Zone of Oriental Negros.

The support will be in the form of helping enhance the program and campaign on family planning, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, and if applicable, the HIV/AIDS services.

Hazard said that LEAD, a USAID-assisted program, supports local government units improve the availability, quality, and sustainability of their health services.

STA. BAYABAS covers Bayawan City and the towns of Sta. Catalina and Basay. Dr. Fidencio Aurelia, district hospital officer of Bayawan City, who is also behind the PISO FOR HEALTH and other similar programs to promote health in the city, initiated the integrated health zone approach.*RG
