A Bacoleņo who allegedly supplied shabu to drug peddlers in
Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, was arrested by the police yesterday
in a buy-bust operation at the Cadiz public market.
Supt. Norberto Boston, Cadiz police chief, said the apprehension
of Jolito Medes, 29-year-old resident of Doņa Juliana Heights in
Bacolod City, also yielded an estimated 20 grams of suspected shabu,
estimated to have a market value of P100,000.
Boston said the capture of Medes was the product of information
from disgruntled drug peddlers in Cadiz City.
Police investigations show that Medes was among the suppliers
of shabu to drug pushers in Cadiz City.
A fan knife, a cellphone, and marked money used in the buy-bust
operation were also recovered by the Cadiz police anti-drug operatives
from Medes who is now locked up in jail.
Boston said the shabu confiscated from Medes came from Bacolod
City. However, Medes refused to identify the source of the shabu
he had brought to Cadiz City.
Possessing more than 10 grams of shabu is a non-bailable offense
as stipulated in the provisions of RA 9165, known as the Comprehensive
Drug Act of 2002.
Supt. Rolen Balquin, regional director of the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency in Western Visayas, yesterday said the price
of shabu per gram rose from P3,000 to P5,000.
The arrest of Medes also came three days after Rocky Belonio,
a notorious drug pusher who also topped the list of 10 drug personalities
of E.B. Magalona, was also captured by the police in Brgy. Capitan
Ramon, Silay City.
Last month, about 45 grams of suspected shabu were also confiscated
from an arrested drug courier who was arrested by policemen at a
checkpoint in Escalante City.
Upon his assumption of the Cadiz City police command last month,
Boston was instructed by Senior Supt. Charles Calima, provincial
police director, to further intensify the anti-drug campaign in
his area of operations.*GPB
