Fire hits city
engineer's house
BY DONALYN GUERRERO

A fire broke out yesterday damaging the one-storey residential house of Bacolod City Engineer Loreto Dilag at Zone 5, Purok Masinadyahon, Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City.

Fire Officer 2 Harry Fernandez of the Bureau of Fire and Protection yesterday told the DAILY STAR, the fire originated from the ceiling of the dining area that was made of plywood.

Initial investigation showed the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion. This happens when a combustible material, like the plywood ceiling reaches its ignition point because of intense heat and lack of ventilation, Fernandez said.

He said the fire destroyed Dilag's appliances and personal belongings causing about P300,000 in losses.

He said some of his fellow firefighters were injured when they destroyed the door that was locked, as they tried to put the fire out, Fernandez said.

There were no casualties reported, he added.

The fire was contained after 15 minutes with the joint efforts of the BFP personnel led by Insp. Leonardo Rochar, FO3 Cornelio Silva, FO2 Harry Fernandez and FO1 Stephen Trajenias among others, firefighters of the Amity and Chamber volunteer fire brigades, fire reports said.

Meanwhile, another house was destroyed by fire in Purok Villa, Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City, at about 7:35 last night.

Fire officer 3 Cornelio Silva of Bureau of Fire Protection said their initial investigation showed the fire was caused by a kerosene lamp that accidentally fell.

The fire destroyed the house of Gualberta Perez and burned a Ford Fierra vehicle that was parked near her house. The fire gutted about P100,000 in property, Silva added.*DMG
