Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said the Bacolod City government
is giving the Special Education Department of the Bacolod City National
High School a computer for its visually impaired students.
Leonardia said he is giving the computer to boost the learning
capabilities of the students.
The release of the computer is being processed, he said.
BCNHS student Adonis Britania had earlier said his visually
impaired daughter Annie Rose Rivera Britania is staging a concert
at Benjamin Hall at Lacson Street in Bacolod City on April 29 to
raise funds to among others help buy a computer for her and her
14 other classmates at the school and for other improvements for
their classroom.
The 15 blind students currently share only one computer.
Computers for the blind need JAWS, a screen reader program
that uses an integrated voice synthesizer and sound card to output
the content of the computer screen to speakers.
Annie, who is in third year high school at the BCNHS, also hopes
to raise funds to start her own acoustics band to help her earn
her start her own livelihood after high school.*CPG
