Doņa Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School drubbed two opponents yesterday to stay unbeaten in four games in the Shakey's 18-Under Girls' Volleyball Invitational League Negros Occidental Eliminations at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The DHSBNHS volleybelles pounded Negros Occidental High School, 25-16, 25-21, before demolishing Doņa Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School, 25-19, 25-13, for a 4-0 win-loss record to grab the lead in the ten-team tournament.

St. Joseph's School-La Salle improved to 3-0 yesterday after scoring triumphs against separate rivals. SJS-La Salle prevailed over Bata National High School, 25-21, 25-22, before escaping NOHS, 25-18, 23-25, 27-29.

Monico Cup opens Friday

The 2006 Monico Cup Inter-Barangay Summer Basketball Tournament will fire off at 8 a.m. tomorrow at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Gym in Bacolod City.

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and Negrense cager Noli Locsin have been invited to be the guests during the opening that will be preceded by a parade from the Paglaum Sports Complex to NOMPAC.

Tournament chairman Nicky Puentevella said the confirmation of the invited guests will be known today when Rep. Monico Puentevella returns from his South Korea trip.

UNO-R tryouts ongoing

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos varsity tryouts for the college basketball and sepak takraw teams are currently ongoing at the UNO-R campus in Bacolod City.

UNO-R sports director Ericsson Rios said that table tennis aspirants may also proceed to the Lopue's San Sebastian-Annex Building for whole-day tryouts.

Jorge Jimenez is the head coach of multiple Negros Occidental Private School Sports, Cultural and Educational Association titlist UNO-R table tennis squads.
