The Dumaguete City Council junked the proposed resolution questioning
the publication of a national daily exposing the presence of fixers
in the drug testing center business.
Councilor Noel de Jesus quoted an article published in the
Philippine Star that states that these fixers were also given commissions.
As head of at least 10 drug testing laboratories in Oriental
Negros, De Jesus, a doctor, said this never happened in the province.
To preserve the integrity of drug testing laboratories in
the province, De Jesus said he will request for specifics in a form
of a resolution.
However, some members of the city council said they would
not want the body to be dragged into the private business of drug
testing laboratories.
Councilor Franklin Esmeņa pointed out that what is happening
in Metro Manila may not be the same in Oriental Negros.
At the votation, four councilors were in favor, one against and
three abstained. With nine members present, five votes are required
for the approval of the resolution.*JG
