Doņa Luising goes 60's

Trust it to the Diaz Lacson clan to come up with a unique celebration of their beloved mother's birthday. When you've grown up in a gracious home (and do they have one…) that has been the venue of endless parties, hosting a most enjoyable affair comes easy. For their mom's 95th year, the children and grandchildren and great grandchildren came up with a marvelous theme party that requested guests to come in their swinging 60's attire.

This was the time of the Beatles, the Mod look that's being revived today, the mini skirts, the pouffed hair for girls, the bangs for everyone, heavy make-up and false eyelashes, prints went wild from Pucci to psychedelic, and yes, we were all young, then!

Although our generation has become slower and heavier as we donned our Mao jackets and wore those garish jewelry, the young ones had a heyday wearing multi-colored mop head wigs, the false eyelashes, the vintage Joe Leonardia de Bacolod minis and dancing to the beat of the jerk. There were Jackie O clones, Pearlie Arcache wanna-be models, James Bond agents, Minnie Osmeņa debutants, socialite beauty queens, hippies and Mary Quant babes. New Yorker Chichi Lacson Muņoz came as Imelda with Bobby Lacson as Macoy. Nelly Lacson was in a Jackie O shift with Onassis jewelry and Luci Lizares was the height of the London look with black and white plastic op-art mini dress, even Amai Lopue came in a psychedelic printed gown! Marivic Lacson wore her hair in a fly-away pouf that completed her maxi-coat dress and the perfect foil to hubby Teddy's Mao jacket and vintage 60's chain pendant.

But, nothing could beat the grand entrance of Doņa Luising in a lavender vintage terno that wasn't a millimeter tighter than the last time she wore it. Brother Julio Diaz sang, sister Celia Diaz Laurel sang, Cocoy Laurel sang, even Londoner Derek Bage and Spanish heart-throb Alfredo Roca sang for the birthday girl. Come to think of it, the 60's was indeed, a wholesome musical! Remember those Cliff Richard movies? Oh, how we miss them. Thank you, Tita Luising and family for bringing back those fun-filled days!

MY PRAYER

High above all nations is the Lord; above the Heavens is His glory.*
