5 squads joining NBA tilt

Five squads have confirmed their entry in the 2006 Negros Basketball Association-Mayor's Cup Summer Basketball Tournament that opens at 2:30 p.m. on April 8 at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Teams that have signified their entry are Silay All Stars, Ceres Liners, Toyota, Sipalay Stingers and last year's runner-up JS Shell. Defending champion Your Basketball Athletic Club-Emarken will skip the tournament.

Former Philippine Basketball Association campaigner Vernie Villarias will mentor the Silay All Stars, while ex-West Negros College Mustangs standouts Joevert Gabayoyo, Arnold Laureņo and Ruel Balgos will play for the Sipalay Stingers. Former Negros Slashers stalwarts Leo Bat-og, Carlos Sayon and John Lim, and former Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod cagers Joemel Garrido and Christian Antiporda will see action for Ceres Liners.

The Ireneo Morales-mentored University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos dribblers will don the colors JS Shell in the tournament that has adopted a double elimination round format. *CIT
