DepEd, Capitol to tackle
Palaro billeting matters
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Officials of the Negros Occidental Provincial Government and Department of Education will meet today to discuss the billeting quarters of the 2006 Palarong Pambansa-bound Negros student-athletes who will train at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Manuel De Oro, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Sports and Development Office, said the Capitol and DepEd officials will iron out the accommodation of the Negros-based Palaro athletes because the rooms at Panaad will also be used as billeting quarters for the players who will see action in the Panaad Sportsfest slated April 24 to 29.

The Provincial Government and DepEd officials will tackle possible solutions on how to fit the national Palaro-bound and sportsfest athletes from April 24 to 29, he said. De Oro said he might also attend the meeting with Board Member Emilio Yulo III, Superintendent Eva Belicena of the Neg. Occ. Schools Division and Felipe Dumancas, head of the Neg. Occ. Physical Education and Schools Sports.

The meeting will also tackle the preparations for the national Palaro training of the Negros student-athletes that will start within this week or next week, De Oro added.

The national meet is scheduled from May 7 to 13 at the Metro Naga Sports Complex in Naga City, Bicol.

Western Visayas, represented by players from Negros, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique and Guimaras, hopes to improve its second overall finish in both the elementary and secondary competitions of the national Palaro in Iloilo City last year. Meanwhile, De Oro said he met with the different coordinators of the Panaad Sportsfest yesterday to discuss the rules and regulations of the disciplines lined up in the event.

Athletes from the different towns and cities in Negros Occidental will joust for the crowns in swimming, athletics, table tennis, taekwondo, chess, boxing and the Mambukal team relay. *CIT
