Do officials of the Department of Interior and Local Government really have nothing to do with the people's initiative for Charter change?

It has been DILG officials in Negros Occidental asking, in some cases demanding, that the Commission on Elections give them the list of voters for the people's initiative, COMELEC provincial supervisor Daisy Real said yesterday.

Real also said that, in many instances, barangay officials are involved in the gathering of signatures for the people's initiative. moremoremore

Thai PM sobs after resigning

BANGKOK - Thailand's embattled Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra hugged his two daughters and sobbed yesterday after announcing he would step down in the wake of controversial weekend elections.

Thaksin announced he would not accept the post of prime minister when parliament reconvenes.

Immediately after the 10-minute nationally televised speech, Thaksin -- who is battling allegations of corruption and abuse of power -- hugged his daughters and wept on their shoulders while his wife put her arms around him. moremoremore

Police brace for NPA
attacks on Holy Week

The public is being warned against possible attacks by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army during the Holy Week.

Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Pedro Merced yesterday said he has reactivated the Oplan Semana Santa, that started its operations April 1, to prevent possible attacks of the CPP-NPA during the season.

The members of the OSS will also provide security in malls and churches and supervise traffic for the occasion.moremoremore
