Good news for children and dependents of soldiers in Western Visayas
who died in the line of duty.
Maj. Lyndon Sollesta, Army regional spokesman, yesterday said
a memorandum of agreement will be signed today between the Armed
Forces of the Philippines and representative of seven colleges and
universities in Panay, that will provide scholarships, tuition fee
discounts and other incentives to dependents of Army soldiers who
died in combat duty.
Sollesta said similar arrangements will also be initiated
by the AFP with colleges in Negros Occidental.
The MOA signing to be held at the Sarabia Manor Hotel in Iloilo
today will be attended by Maj. Gen. Christie Datu, AFP deputy chief
of staff, Brig. Gen. Juanito Gomez, deputy commanding general of
the 3rd Infantry Division, and representatives of seven colleges
and universities in Panay island.
Those offering either scholarships, tuition fees discounts
or incentives to military dependents are John B. Lacson Colleges
and Foundation, University of St. Agustin, Central Philippines University,
Cabalum College, Colegio de San Jose, De Paul College and Dominican
College.
Sollesta said the joint AFP and Panay schools undertakings
will be a big help to the dependents of slain soldiers for their
college education.
AFP chief Generoso Senga will also lead the groundbreaking
of the "Kalinga sa Kawal" housing project at the military reservation
area in Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz, tomorrow.
Besa said the housing project is the result of an MOA between
the Philippine Army and the Gawad Kalinga Development Foundation
that aims to provide a better quality of life, comfort and security
to the soldiers.*GPB
