SCOOP awards to be revived

The revival of the Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines-Bacolod Awards was among the projects presented by SCOOP president Renato "Boy" Duran during the induction of the organization's new officers at the Casino Filipino Hotel in Bacolod City Friday night.

Duran said the SCOOP-Bacolod Awards should be revived so that the achievements of the most outstanding Negrense athletes in 2006 can be recognized.

Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain lauded Duran's plan of reviving the awards because it will motivate the Negrense athletes to do better in their events.

"I'm happy that the SCOOP Awards will be revived because athletes love attention and recognition. The awards will be a real motivation," Buhain said.

Duran said SCOOP-Bacolod members will also conduct sports writing and broadcasting refresher courses for the media who are willing to learn about sports.

A sports almanac or directory that will contain the officials, contact numbers and location among others of the different sports organizations in Negros, will also be drawn up by SCOOP-Bacolod, he said.

Aside from Duran of DYEZ-Aksyon Radyo, also inducted were Nida Buenafe of Negros Weekly - vice president, Cedelf Tupas of DAILY STAR - secretary, Elsie Jolingan of Sunshine Channel - treasurer, Dolores Epacta of Negros Weekly - auditor and Christian Irl Tan of DAILY STAR - business manager.

Members of the Board of Directors for 2006 are Allen del Carmen -- STARLIFE magazine editor, former SCOOP president Eric Loretizo of DAILY STAR (on leave), Henceboy Cestina of DYKB-Radyo Ronda, Guillermo Tejida III of DAILY STAR and Mitchel Lipa of ABS-CBN. Last year's president Henry Villalva of SunStar Bacolod is the ex-oficio director.*
