win NOVA titles

La Carlota City pounded University of St. La Salle, 25-15, 25-21, Saturday to take the 16-Under girls' division crown of the 16th Negros Occidental Volleyball Association-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championship at the USLS College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

Silay City beat Negros Occidental High School, 26-24, 25-20, to rule the 14-Under boys' category, while St. Joseph's School-La Salle rallied past ATLETA, 17-25, 25-12, 25-18, for the 14-Under girls' crown.

EB Magalona stunned reigning NOPSSCEA champion Queen of Peace School-B, 27-25, 25-21, to bring home the 10-Under boys' championship as St. John's Institute scored a 25-21, 25-17 triumph over QPS to top the 10-Under girls' hostilities.

The NOHS and Silay City volleybelles finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 16-Under girls' competitions, where Jerriz Joy Solis of La Carlota emerged as the Most Valuable Player. La Consolacion College-Main and La Carlota placed second and third runners-up, respectively, in the 14-Under boys' category, while SJI and Silay City settled for third and fourth places, respectively, in the 14-Under girls' play.

Silaynon Melchor Cordero bagged the MVP honors in the 14-Under boys' competitions as Kimberly Mendez of SJS-La Salle became the best player in 14-Under girls' division.

QPS-A and La Consolacion Academy-Murcia ended up in third and fourth places, respectively, in the 10-Under boys' play, while USLS and QPS placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 10-Under girls' category.

Emerging as the 10-Under boys' MVP was Jameboy Lomugda of EB Magalona, while SJI standout Shieva Canuday grabbed the MVP honors in the 10-Under girls' competitions.

Pulupandan spiker Melchor Casipe was named as the MVP in the 16-Under boys' division, while Franzen Gavile of Pulupandan and Rachel Toreta of St. Rose of Lima School were the best players in the 12-Under boys and girls', respectively.

Meanwhile, the Shakey's 18-Under Girls Volleyball Invitational Negros Occidental Eliminations kicks off at 8 a.m. today at the USLS College Covered Court.

Squads that will see action in the tournament are USLS, La Consolacion College-Main, Negros Occidental High School, Bata National High School, Doņa Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School, St. Benilde School and St. Joseph's School-La Salle, EB Magalona, Mansilingan Christian Academy, Maranatha Christian College, St. Scholastica's Academy and Doņa Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School.

The Negros champion will face the titlists from Iloilo, Cebu and Manila in the Shakey's 18-Under Girls Volleyball Grand Finals from June 1 to 3 in Manila.*CIT
