BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Himamaylan City standout Eric Panique clocked one hour and 22.55 seconds Saturday to snatch his second consecutive crown in the open category of the 8th 21-kilometer Tri-Mountain Resort Marathon in Bago City.

Panique, reigning titlist of the Western Visayas Milo Marathon, bested Cadiz City bet Rene Desuyo, who finished with a time of 1:26.32, and teammate Anthony Babiera, who booked a 1:27.10 clocking, to bring home the championship.

Panique, who also won the Escalante City 21-K Individual Challenge last year, received P10,000 for his feat in the race that began at Kipot and passed through Buenos Aires before ending up at Guintubdan.

Meanwhile, Gary Jun Bonifacio timed in at 48 minutes 42 seconds to top the 5-kilometer 15-Under race, beating Leo Arellano (49:29) and Cherwin Caņete (49:42). Placing fourth and fifth, respectively, were Ryan Villarta (51.40 sec.) and Rodnel Tejada (53.10).

Neri Barcelo of Antique registered a time of 1:41.10 to finish fifth in the open category, while Himamaylan bet Rowell Hulleza claimed the sixth spot in 1:52.16.

Rounding out the top 10 were EB Magalona's Ben Alijandro (1:55.03), Joenel Apostol of La Carlota City (1:56.26), Iloilo bet Abraham Garces of Pro-Sports (1:59.22) and Rommel Hulleza of Himamaylan City (2:03.06).

About 146 long-distance runners saw action in the marathon sponsored by the San Miguel Corporation and the Bago City local government, headed by Mayor Janet Torres.*CIT
