Ayungon farmer
killed in stabbing
BY RENE NGENOVE

A farmer was charged for the death of another farmer who had stabbed himself while they were grappling for the latter's knife, in Brgy. Mabato, Ayungon, Oriental Negros.

Charged for the death of Romulo Sarap, of legal age, was Santiago Kadusale, 54. Both are married and are natives of Mabato.

Witnesses told the police that the stabbing took place at about 5:50 p.m. Monday when Sarap, who was reportedly under the influence of intoxicating liquor, went wild and shouted invectives.

Kadusale reportedly tried to pacify him, but instead of listening to the advice, he pulled out a 12-inch knife and attacked Kadusale.

The suspect said he was able to parry attack, grabbed Sarap's hands, and grappled for the knife, which eventually hit the victim in the stomach.

Residents brought Sarap to the hospital on a motorcycle, but he fell on the road, injuring him further.

From Ayungon, the victim was transported to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City, where he later died.

Kadusale, meanwhile, turned himself and the knife over to barangay kagawad Julito Ronato who endorsed him to the Ayungon police.*RG
