SP defers action on bid
of mayor to secure loan

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod has deferred action on the letter of the Mayor requesting authority to negotiate and secure a loan from any government banking institution for the construction of a new City Hall in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City.

Vice Mayor Renecito Novero yesterday said the request of Mayor Evelio Leonardia to seek a P350-million loan was deferred because the SP wants to study the matter further.

Councilor Ana Marie Palermo said the transfer of the City Hall should be discussed first as provided by law, including the site where the structure will be constructed.

She said the transfer of the City Hall will need the approval of the Sangguniang Panlungsod by two-thirds vote and that the Committee on Laws and Good Government, which she chairs, will conduct a public hearing on the matter.

She also said the executive and legislative should also discuss the process, including their plans for the old site of the City Hall.

Councilor Reynold Iledan reportedly said the proposed site of the new City Hall in Brgy. Taculing was donated for a different purpose. We should also consider other places where it could be more appropriate for the new City Hall, or the new Bacolod Government Center, to be constructed, Novero said.*CGS
