A 20-year-old student died yesterday after he was mauled allegedly
by at least four members of the 6th Regional Mobile Group in the
city in a kiosk at San Juan Street, Bacolod City Tuesday midnight.
Sion David Iraque Geocadin, of Purok 2, Brgy. Garganto, Hinigaran
town in Negros Occidental and temporarily staying in Purok Pag-asa,
Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City and a junior student of STI College
taking up Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, came home at
about 3 a.m. Thursday with black eyes and hematomas in different
parts of his body, his landlady Monina Sangria, said.
She said she rushed Geocadin to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano
Memorial Regional Hospital at about 11 a.m. Thursday morning because
of spontaneous vomiting.
Geocadin, however, died at the hospital at about 4 a.m. yesterday,
she added.
Meanwhile, Geocadin's companion, who requested not to be named,
said he and Geocadin met at the Bacolod public plaza and later decided
to drink. He said they ordered four bottles of beer and paid for
them. However, a kiosk employee complained that they failed to pay
for the fifth bottle they had ordered. They denied ordering this,
and an altercation resulted.
Later, a commotion took place when Geocadin and the kiosk
employee grappled with each other. Some members of the 6th RMG arrived
and pacified them.
He said he and Geocadin were dragged by the RMG troopers to
Police Precinct 1. He said Geocadin told him he was boxed by at
least four members of the 6th RMG.
He said he could not identify who among the uniformed men had
mauled him and Geocadin, but he is sure they were members of the
6th RMG because of they wore camouflage uniforms.
He said they complained to the police and Geocadin reported
that he lost his Nokia 3530 cellphone worth P3,000.
Meanwhile, Ignacio Geocadin, father of Sion David, said the
son's remains will be subjected to an autopsy to determine the cause
of his death. He said he will seek police assistance to get justice
for his son who must have died of internal hemorrhage because of
the intensity of the mauling.
Alda Salavante, principal of the Pahilanga National High School
in Hinigaran and an aunt of Sion David, said her nephew was suffering
from hemophilia, a coagulation disorder, in which the blood fails
to clot normally because of a deficiency or abnormality of one of
the clotting factors.*DMG
