Team manager Eugene Loo of the Singapore Football Association
has expressed satisfaction over the conditions of the official playing
venues for men's football during the 23rd Southeast Asian Games,
Eric Loretizo, secretary-general of the Bacolod SEAG Organizing
Committee, said yesterday.
Men's football, the centerpiece event of the biennial meet,
will be hosted at the Paglaum Sports Complex and the Panaad Park
and Stadium in Bacolod City from Nov. 20 to Dec. 5.
Loo decided to inspect the sites because of the positive feedback
that he got from the other Singaporeans who have visited Bacolod
City, Loretizo said, adding that Loo also checked the hotel accommodations
of the Singaporean contingent and the food supply in the malls.
Other disciplines set in Bacolod City for the 16-day, 11-country
conclave are weightlifting, indoor volleyball, boxing and beach
volleyball. The Singaporean official also gave high marks to Bacolod
City because of its cleanliness and accessibility between the playing
venues and billeting facilities, he said.
The BaSoc is happy at the progress of the contractors' work
on the 34-year-old PSC as everything is moving fast with them working
day and night, he added.
Loretizo said the obstacles to hastening the rehabilitation
of the sports complex are the squatters who have not yet vacated
the rooms underneath the grandstand to be used as function rooms
during the biennial meet.
The local organizing committee is processing the documents
of the squatters who are qualified for relocation with the Bacolod
Housing Authority, he added.
He said there are no problems in the preparations at the Panaad
Park and Stadium that will also be the site for the welcoming ceremonies
of the Bacolod SEA Games.
Countries that will see action in the international event are
Singapore, Malaysia, East Timor, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand,
Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei and host Philippines.*CIT
