Old man cries
maltreatment by policeman

HA 74-year-old resident of Tanjay City, Oriental Negros, has accused of maltreatment a police officer in Dumaguete City who, he said, arrested and handcuffed him like a notorious criminal.

Jose Desiderio Girasol Jr. said that, although he admits that he had broken traffic rules, he should have been treated humanely, being a senior citizen.

Girasol said he brought his defective typewriter to a repair shop at Perdices Street on his tricycle, when a passenger asked that he be brought to the Ceres terminal in Calindagan.

He said he was just trying to bring the man to the terminal, in exchange for P20 in fare.

Police Officer 3 Stephen Duran arrested him for violating the traffic rules and regulations of the city that prohibit the picking up of passengers in undesignated places.

Duran said he was forced to handcuff Girasol to stop him from continuously assaulting him in front of many people.*JG
