Manjuyod town
ex-mayor dies

A former mayor of Manjuyod town, Oriental Negros, about 60 kilometers north of Dumaguete City, died Sunday of an apparent heart attack.

Orville Baldado, 58, had just delivered a speech for the Couples for Christ in a mountain barangay in Jimalalud town when he felt chest pains.

He was rushed to the Silliman Medical Center in Dumaguete but died along the way, his brother, Oriental Negros Vice Gov. Jose Baldado, himself a former Manjuyod Mayor from 1976-1991, said.

Orville Baldado was Manjuyod mayor from 1998 to 2001.

The town of Manjuyod is now headed by Mayor Amor Baldado, also a brother of Orville and Jose.

Manjuyod also had another Baldado for mayor from 1969-1976 -- Rodolfo, the father of Jose, Orville and Amor.

Orville Baldado's remains lie in state at their residence in the town. No date for interment has yet been set.*AP
