P53,000 for mentally-ill patients
stolen from provincial hospital

About P53,000 intended for the food subsistence of mentally-ill patients at the Talay Rehabilitation Center was reported stolen from the dietary services office of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Sunday night or early Monday.

Police investigations showed that the culprit must have been sure that the cash was in one of the drawers of the steel cabinet, because the other shelves were untouched.

Sabrina Fuentes, assistant head of the NOPH dietary services, said the amount was for the purchase of milk, viands and other needs of the Talay patients for the fourth quarter of this year.

She said somebody within the hospital might have known about the withdrawal of the cash, and the exact compartment of the steel cabinet where it was placed.

The compartment had been forced open and the money in a wooden box was taken by the culprit.*JG
