The continuing Tax Compliance Verification Drive
of the Bureau of Internal Revenue Region 12 resulted in improved
tax collections with statistics from January to August showing
the agency exceeding its goal by 12.25 percent.
BIR Region 12, covering Negros Island and Siquijor,
collected P2,142,128,186.44 in the first eight months of 2005.
Its goal is only P1,908,317,292.67.
Norma Bayoneta, head of Taxpayers' Assistance Unit,
yesterday told the DAILY STAR the TCVD, which involves taxmapping
or monitoring operations, has largely helped in increasing tax
collections because taxpayers have now become more informed and
educated of their tax obligations. 


Mayor's
decision
on CRRA out today
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia will announce his
decision on the Comprehensive Revised Reclamation Agreement case
during the executive-legislative caucus today at the Business
Inn in Bacolod City.
This was disclosed yesterday by Secretary to the
Mayor Roger Balo, who said the Mayor wants to get feedback from
the reaction of the Sangguniang Panlungsod members.
The decision will involve the results of the review
of the CRRA which covers the contract of the city with the Bacolod
Real Estate Development Corp. 


San
Carlos may become top
source of energy in Negros
San Carlos City in northern Negros Occidental may
soon become the principal power source for the province and, possibly,
event the entire Negros Island, reports said.
There is the San Carlos Wind Power Corp., owned
by the Filipino Smith Bell Group of Companies and Global Renewable
Energy Partners of Denmark, which is developing a 30-megawatt
wind farm project.
Then, there is the San Carlos Bioethanol Corp.
plant that will sell its co-generated excess power to the National
Power Corp., which is also a partner in the ethanol fuel project,
the reports also said.
