Miss Tourism pageant

The Miss Tourism Pageant and the Tourism Night were among the highlights of the recent Tourism Month celebration at the La Consolacion College in Bacolod City.

Rose Ann Locsin bagged the Miss Tourism 2005 title with Pamela Sitchon and Amy Rose Arig as first and second runners-up. They bested seven other contestants, a press release from LCC said yesterday.

The Tourism Night was held at the Cool Blue Bar. Other activities, spearheaded by the Traveler's Club Society, were a motorcade and opening salvo led by Carlo Caesar Coloso, head of the LCC Tourism Program; Parade of Nations by selected tourism students; tour guiding seminar at the HTM Center located at Quezon Avenue, Bacolod, with tourism officer Ver Pacete as speaker; a knowledge contest won by sophomore Diana Ramirez; and a quiz bowl competition won by Mishell Anoran Zaida Lambatin.

The celebration was aimed at enhancing the skills of tourism students, and to promote professionalism in the tourism industry, the press release added.*

Kabankalan holds
adopt-a-family drive

Indigent families from 20 barangays were the recipients of Adopt-A-Family Program this year in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

The families were treated to a day of fun, a lunch and gift-giving by their sponsors at the city plaza yesterday, a press release from the Kabankalan government said.

The program closed the week-long Family Week Celebration in the city, in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

The adopted families are the Boaquiñas of Brgy. 1, Natalon - Brgy. 2, Mission - Brgy. 3, Abadiano - Brgy. 4, Beato - Brgy. 5, Millan - Brgy. 6, Dela Cruz - Brgy. 7, Dela Cruz - Brgy. 8, Antonio - Brgy. 9, Tabasen - Hilamonan, Custaberde - Orong, Baloran - Salong, Sanisit - Linao, Zuniga -Talubangi, Rodrigo - Binicuil, Mariñas - Daan Banua, Fajardo - Camansi,

Tabucon - Camugao, Alvarez - Oringao, and Oted - Camingawan.

The sponsors were the Rotary Club of Kabankalan, Lion's Club of Kabankalan, Department of Education-Kabankalan V, Day Care Workers Association, FALCON DOTC, BHW Federation, Fellowhip Baptist College, Fortress College, ERPAT Federation, FSCAP Kabankalan City, Negros State College of Agriculture, Kabankalan "Bangkal" and "Molasses" Jaycees, Temple A.C.E. Academy, Liga ng mga Barangay, Kabankalan Catholic College, Zayco Family, Anacan Family, Sangguniang Panlungsod and Jollibee Food Corporation, the press release said.

Mayor Pedro Zayco thanked the civic clubs, non-government organizations, schools and business establishments for helping the families, the press release added.*

'best in talent' bets chosen

Five out of the 23 candidates vying for Miss Gay Masskara 2005 title were chosen for the "Best in Talents" during the Talent night presentation at the Bacolod Bays Center Thursday.

The winners were Mark Borja (Anne Curtis), who performed the Hawaiian Dance, Jan Paul Corteza (Melissa Marie Ricks), who impersonated a mannequin in a music box, Michael Esporzado (Jackie Forster), who sang "Cabaret", Rhyan Ballesteros (Ma. Charlene Ballesteros), who danced and Eric Barraquias (Minorca Mercado), who performed a comedy monologue.

Some of the contestants entertained the jam-packed audience with their talents in singing, belly-dancing, painting, sketching and interpretative dancing.

The winners are set to re-showcase their talents during the pageant night at the Bacolod Bays Center on Oct. 9.

The criteria for the Talent portion are characterization and projection - 30 percent, suitability of piece, skills and uniqueness - 30 percent, costume and relevance - 30 percent and audience appeal - 10 percent.

The judges were Alex Coloso, executive assistant III and head of Sectoral Concerns, Melanie Arroyo, office secretary of Sectoral Concerns, Roberto Bacasong, president of the Bacolod City Hall Press Corps, Nomer Lobaton, manager of the Ads and Promo department of the Gaisano Supermall, and Kuster Cadagat, representative of PD888 Colgate-Palmolive, Negros Occidental.

As prizes for the major awards, Miss Gay Masskara 2005 will receive P7,000, and gift packs; 1st runner up will receive P5,000; 2nd runner up will receive P3,000; 3rd and 4th runner up will receive cash. All will also receive trophies.

The minor awards are for Best in Talent, Best in Festival Costume, Best in Gown, Best in Swinsuit, Miss Congeniality, Miss Simply Fashion, Miss Photogenic, Darling of the Press, Miss Colgate-Palmolive. *DMG
