OWWA exec hits
non-support of city officials

An official of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is lamenting what he described as the "unsupportive" stance of the Dumaguete City government toward their repatriation and reintegration programs.

At the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between Meralco Foundation Inc. and the Bais Family Farm School recently, Adolfo Timtim said that none of the 13 overseas workers associations formed in Oriental Negros could be found in Dumaguete.

He said the OWWA is looking for partners in Oriental Negros and Siquijor provinces, to organize families and dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers. But Mayor Agustin Perdices said the city is willing to take part in such undertaking. In fact, he added, the city has created the Office of the Sectoral Desks, and had conducted several jobs fair, in coordination with the Department of Labor.

Perdices said the problem is that the OWWA is not coordinating with his office.* JG
