Overpass eyed to
decongest traffic

Dumaguete City Councilor Manuel Patrimonio has filed a measure requesting Rep. Emilio Macias II (2nd district, Oriental Negros) and Gov. George Arnaiz to help put up overpasses at the national highway at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital and in front of the St. Paul University.

Patrimonio said he has observed the traffic jam in the two areas, particularly during rush hours. He said, pedestrians do not seem to be deterred by traffic as they cross the road, which worsens the congestion and increases accidents.

APEC Partylist Rep. Sunny Rose Madamba recently allocated P1 million to build the first pedestrian overpass in Negros Island in front of the Silliman University elementary school.

Meanwhile, the city council approved Thursday the petition for renewal of the concession of the Calindagan-Mangnao-Banilad Fry Association, a group of bangus fry catchers in Zones 3 and 4, Dumaguete.

CALMABAFA president Renato Corsame, who attended the session, requested for an extension of their concessions. He said their first concession was issued in 1980 during the stint of former Mayor Lorenzo Maxino.

It was renewed during the incumbency of OIC City Mayor Elfren Quial III. Aside from the concession, the city council also appropriated P50,000 for the repair of their common fishpond, Corsame said.*RG
