Migrant farm worker
beheaded in Murcia
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A migrant farm worker was beheaded by his fellow workers from Antique on Tuesday in Brgy. Cansilayan, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

The headless body of victim Rogelio Andres that also bore multiple stab and hack wounds, and was dumped in a creek in Hacienda Ditching of the barangay, was found yesterday by the police.

Police said the body of Andres was discovered several meters away from his head.

The discovery of the body came after the arrest of his two assailants, Randy Berto, 20, and Arvin Camacho, 19, both of Lawa-an, Antique, at the "cuartel (workers' quarters)" of Hacienda Ditching.

Andres, Camacho and Berto were among the 20 farm workers from Antique hired by Pedro Rilles to work in Hacienda Ditching, police investigations show.

Murcia police chief Simeon Gane yesterday said Camacho and Berto admitted having killed Andres. Gane said Pedro Rilles, contractor of the sacadas from Antique, got mad after Andres and Jarrie Alejo left the hacienda on Monday without asking permission from him.

When they returned to the hacienda cuartel the next day, Gane said the victim and Alejo were brought by Rilles, who was accompanied by Berto and Camacho, to a secluded area of the hacienda.

Camacho, in an interview with MBC DYEZ, admitted to have stabbed Andres in the back, while Berto confessed to hacking the victim twice.

Berto, however, said Camacho was responsible for cutting of Andres' head with a cane cutter.

Both suspects also admitted of placing two large stones on the back of the victim, to ensure that his body would sink in the creek.

The two suspects who are now detained at the Murcia police jail, further claimed that Rilles did not intervene, while they were hacking and stabbing the victim.

Gane said Alejo who had witnessed the hacking and stabbing of Andres by the two suspects, was able to escape.

Alejo only surfaced after they arrived at the hacienda to investigate the incident, Gane told the DAILY STAR.

Rilles was nowhere to be found when the Murcia police arrested Berto and Camacho yesterday.

Senior Supt. Charles Calima, provincial police director, said Rilles may also be involved in the killing of Andres, as he immediately fled after the incident.

Two cane cutters and two bladed weapons allegedly used in killing Andres have been recovered by the Murcia police.*GPB
