Bird flu seminar today

The Negros Occidental provincial government, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, is holding an Avian Influenza Seminar Workshop at the Governor's Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City 9 a.m. today.

To prove that Negros chicken is Bird Flu free, resource speakers from the National Avian Influenza Task Force will provide an orientation on what Avian Influenza is all about via the "Project Blue Presentation," a press release from the Capitol said.

Resource speakers are Dr. Davinio Catbagan, Director of the Bureau of Animal Industry; Dr. Amelia Marcelo from the Livestock Development Council in Manila; Jindra Linda Demeterio, Regional Executive Director Officer-in-charge of the Department of Agriculture, Regional Field Unit 6 and Perlita Mecha, Chief of the Livestock Division, DA RFU 6.

"Project Blue Presentation" will include the AI threat in the Philippines, its global and national situationer, as well as the recent scare incidents. It will also provide A! prevention measures such as Border Controls and Campaign Against Smuggling of wild birds, gamefowls and poultry and surveillance of migratory birds sanctuaries; Blosecurity Measures which included poultry farms and duck-raising protocols as well as information, education and communication, the press release said.

The activity will also tackle Crisis Response Preparedness and its four stages namely: Stage 1 - Identification of Suspect Farm/s; Stage 2 - Confirmed AI Infection/; Stage 3 - Bird to Human Transmission; and Stage 4 - Human to Human Transmission.*
