BFP gets gear
The Kaubay Alumni Association-North America donated Monday four
sets each of helmets, gloves and boots for the use of the Cadiz
Bureau of Fire Protection, a press release from the city government
said.
Mayor Salvador Escalante and Vice Mayor Eduardo Varela received
the donation, with city fire marshall Senior Insp. Rodolfo Denaga
and Tommy Tad-y.
Escalante and Varela are members of the Kaubay Fraternity Alumni
Association, the press release added.*

Special
class formed
The Special Class in English and Mathematics, a project of Silay
City Mayor Carlo Gamban, in cooperation with the Department of
Education Silay Division, and the Parents-Teachers and Community
Association was launched at the Silay South Elementary School,
recently.
The class is composed of 45 elementary pupils and secondary
students who are all officers of the different student organizations,
a press release from the Silay city government said yesterday.
Members were selected from participants of the education summit
held in Silay last month. Gamban told the teachers assigned to
conduct the special class to identify and develop the special
talent of the students.
Focus will be given to English and Mathematics since English,
in particular, is a must in seeking employment abroad.
The special class will be held every Saturday, and the city
will provide allowances and food for participants.
The press release added that those present during the pre-test
were Councilor Marie June Pavillar-Castro, chairperson of the
committee on Education, city schools superintendent Eva Belicena,
her assistant Elisa Broņola, PTCA president Henry Belleza, and
the parents and teachers.*

Youth
group
assembly set
The Concerned Christians for Social Transformation-Youth Group,
an affiliate organization of the Provincial Youth Development
Council-Negros Occidental, will hold the Youth General Assembly
and Big Day for Central District, Dec. 10, at the Our Lady of
Lourdes Parish, Brgy. Granada, Bacolod City.
The activity is in response to the challenge of Gov. Joseph
Maraņon, for the youth to build a new kind of power based on spirituality
and values formation, a press release from the CCST said.
Highlights of the event will be the declaration of the CCST-YG
development agenda and advocacies. Lined up activities include
the youth mass, PintaFiesta exhibits, press conference, awareness
rally, and cultural festival.
