Iggy's wife quits PSE board
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The sister-in-law of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Alicia Rita Morales Arroyo, has resigned as director of the Philippine Stocks Exchange, saying she wants to devote her time to helping her husband, Rep. Ignacio Arroyo, in addressing the malnutrition problem in the 5th district of Negros Occidental.

Arroyo expressed satisfaction over the leadership and PSE and installation of new directors "Since the reforms based on framework at PSE are in place, my job is done," she said.

"It is time to do my share in poverty alleviation," she added.

Arroyo served the PSE for more than a year. Before she joined the PSE last year, she served as the general manager of RCBC International Finance Ltd., RCBC Investments Ltd in Hongkong, and later as president of RCBC Securities Inc.

As a congressional spouse, Arroyo reported that she has just held pilot feeding for 120 severely malnourished children in five towns and a city with responsible parenting module, and more than half of them are now normal.

She said she is targeting to feed 1,300 children in the 5th district of Negros Occidental next year.

She also reported that the vegetable production launched in the district on March has benefited thousands of malnourished families, who are now self-sufficient and able to send their children to school.

"These families would have been hungry during the sugar lean season from April to September," she said.

Arroyo said she submitted her resignation papers to the Securities and Exchange Commission last week.*GPB
