Rape raps lodged
vs. Indian national

The Bacolod Women and Children's Concerns Desk yesterday filed rape charges against an Indian national who reportedly molested an 18-year-old househelper in his apartment at 11th Street, Brgy. 17, Bacolod City Wednesday night.

Insp. Sara Jean Recla, WCCD chief, yesterday told the DAILY STAR, that the charges were filed against a certain "Kuya Dante" or John Doe after the medical examination on the complainant showed positive laceration in her private part.

Recla, however, said the complainant, whose name is being withheld, failed to identify "Dante" among the photos of Indian nationals registered at the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation Office, Friday.

She said the WCCD operatives are continuing their manhunt operation on Dante who is believed to have fled. She said the complainant is now in the custody of the Department of Social Services and Development.

Supt. Pedro Merced, Bacolod City police officer-in-charge, yesterday said he will let the BID act on the case since it involves a foreign national, and he will request for the deportation of "Dante" as soon as his identity is established. Meanwhile, Chuvy Arguelles, BID alien control officer in Bacolod City, yesterday said she could not recommend to the BID-Manila the inclusion of "Dante" in the watchlist since his identity has not yet been established.

The complainant had claimed that Dante invited her to a date and later asked her to his apartment where he allegedly raped her, police reports said.*DMG

Valladolid cops apprehend
bet solicitor of daily double

The Valladolid Police arrested a suspected bet solicitor of the illegal numbers game "daily double" at about noon Thursday in Brgy. Bagumbayan, Valladolid, Negros Occidental.

Valladolid police chief Senior Insp. Rico Santotome reported to Senior Supt. Charles Calima Jr., police director of Negros Occidental, that they apprehended Vicente Pit, 56, of Brgy. Central Tabao in the town, as he was about to solicit bets while riding a bicycle, and pretending to be vending coconut wine.

Confiscated from the Pit were a ballpen, P570 cash in bet money, blank tally sheets, and results of daily double with the codename "Camia." Pit will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9287, or illegal gambling, police said.

Santotome said bet solicitors of daily double have resumed their guerilla-type operations in barangays Bagumbayan and Central Tabao, Valladolid, and the police is conducting surveillance operations in the areas.*

ON SEAG BUDGET
Stop complaining, cops told

Supt. Pedro Merced, Bacolod City police officer-in-charge, yesterday asked Bacolod police officers to stop complaining about the lack of budget for food and gasoline, and instead concentrate on their job that is to maintain peace and order while the Southeast Asian Games are going on in Bacolod City.

Merced was reacting to reports that some of Bacolod police officers were complaining about the budget to sustain their operations throughout the activity.

He said he assured his men that the Camp Crame has allotted a budget for the SEAG police security force, however it has not arrived yet.

He said they (Bacolod police officers) are not supposed to complain because the government provides them with their daily food subsistence allowance with or without a special activity.

Meanwhile, Merced said athletes and delegates of the Southeast Asian Games are not allowed to roam around Bacolod City unless on organized trips by the Bacolod SEAG organizing Committee and they are escorted by police security personnel detailed to their respective billeting areas.

So far, Merced said he has not encountered any difficulties and everything seems to be manageable, including the traffic scheme and security preparations.

He said he has coordinated with the Bacolod Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee to set necessary rules and regulations to avoid friction between participating teams after a reported near-scuffle involving the Vietnam football team and a Singapore football player during a practice game at the Bacolod City Sports Complex Sunday morning.*DMG
