EVAT implementation

Oriental Negros Governor George Arnaiz said he is confident that the government can eventually regain the trust and confidence of the people once projects are implemented.

He said many people are protesting the EVAT, but if they see that the taxes they paid are used for projects, their complaints will eventually die down.

Arnaiz also said there is a need to further explain to the people the necessity of the EVAT implementation, for them to appreciate its purpose.

He added that corruption in the government has greatly contributed to the loss of the people's trust and confidence, especially in national government officials, but said there is now a serious effort by the present administration to address the concern. He said the government must also show the result of its campaign against corruption.

Meanwhile, Arnaiz said the national government needs the help of local government units to improve the lives of the people, especially the poor.

He, also said the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has consistently shown recognition to the capability of LGUs to help improve the countryside.*RA
