A ranking official of West Negros College denied yesterday reports
that it is backing out from its hosting of the 23rd Southeast Asian
Games indoor volleyball competitions from Nov. 27 to Dec. 5 at the
WNC Gym in Bacolod City.
"We are not backing out," WNC director Anthony Agustin said
brushing aside reports (not in the DAILY STAR) that the West Negros
management is giving up hosting the indoor volleyball games.
Agustin, who also serves as the Committee on Sports Management
Development Office chairman, said he wants to clear the names of
the Bacolod SEAG Organizing Committee and WNC regarding the issue.
He said he already discussed the issue with the local organizing
committee and they are ironing out some aspects that will be important
in the memorandum of agreement.
"The BaSoc will fax the revised MOA tomorrow (today), then
everything will most probably be finalized on Saturday or Sunday,"
he said. Some little revisions need to be done in the MOA between
the BaSoc and West Negros, but there is really no problem with that,
he added.
The report is a clear attempt to disrupt the preparations
of the SEA Games, Eric Loretizo, secretary-general of the BaSoc,
said.
"This is highly-lamentable as I even got calls as far as
Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam that will be fielding their indoor
volleyball squads because of a lie", Loretizo said.
The local organizing committee and WNC will not suffer from
this issue, but it is Bacolod City and Negros Occidental that will
be affected, he said. "It is not a good joke," he added.
Loretizo said he really pities the person who spread the false
report because that person does not know that he is also destroying
the name of his city.
Loretizo also appealed to the groups that are trying to pull down
Bacolod City's preparations for the biennial meet to stop disseminating
wrong information about the Games. *CIT
