Cebu Pacific yesterday began offering special bargain
fares at up to 60 percent lower than standard rates as part of
an effort to attract two million passengers next year, airline
officials said.
The year-long promotion comes as the airline takes
steps to modernize its fleet with two Airbus A320 aircraft and
two Airbus A319s already delivered this year with two more A319s
due to be delivered in December.
A320 and A319s are set to arrive by the first half
of 2007, replacing the airline's fleet of DC-9 and Boeing 747s.

'ERC
ruling vs. electric coops
a partial victory for consumers'
The Freedom from Debt Coalition yesterday hailed
the Energy Regulatory Commission decision dismissing for lack
of jurisdiction the application of the 21 electric cooperatives
in Regions 6, 7 and 8 to adopt a tax recovery adjustment charge
in their rates.
In a press statement, the FDC said the decision
is a partial victory for consumers amidst the flurry of rate increases
brought by, among others, the Expanded Value Added Tax.
The ERC, in its 20-page decision, said that an
evaluation of the pre-filing documents submitted by the applicants
show that these are not in compliance with the mandatory requirements,
having only published a mere notice of application.
