FOR ORGANIC FARMING
NegOr to get
P5M soon: guv

The Oriental Negros government will receive about P5 million that had been promised by the Department of Agriculture for organic farming in the province soon.

Gov. George Arnaiz said the amount will be released after a Memorandum of Agreement is signed between him and Agriculture Region 7 regional director Eduardo Lecciones.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has already authorized the governor to sign the MOA.

During his year-end press conference, Arnaiz said he intends to buy a tractor for Tamlang Valley, using P1.5 million from the fund, and the provincial government will shoulder the other P1.5 million since the amount of the tractor is estimated to be P3 million.

Arnaiz said part of the amount will also be used for the establishment of an organic demo farm at the provincial nursery compound, adding that the thrust of his administration is to promote organic farming because it is environment-friendly and cheaper.

He said agricultural technicians in the province have been promoting organic farming in Barangay Agricultural Development Center in the hinterland villages.*RA S
