Police fail to arrest
GRO slay suspect

Bacolod City police director, Senior Supt. Pedro Merced, yesterday said Police Precinct 8 personnel failed to arrest "Roming Kumpol", as he reportedly went to Iloilo City after he was linked to the stabbing of an 18-year-old guest relations officer in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City, on Dec. 19.

Two witnesses, whose identities are being withheld by the DAILY STAR, surfaced Monday and disclosed that "Roming Kumpol" was the one who offered them P15,000 in cash to kill the woman, but they ignored his proposition.

Merced yesterday said he is expecting his men to arrive in the city today and continue to investigate the case.

He said he will also validate reports involving a Bacolod policeman who reportedly also left for Iloilo City to follow up the case even if he has not been authorized to do so.

He said that, aside from Police Precinct 8 personnel, he never tasked anybody or any police unit to handle the case. He said this Bacolod policeman will be investigated if it is proven that he had intervened on the case.

The witnesses, aged 19 and 17, surfaced a day after a 17-year-old suspect claimed to have stabbed the woman, also surrendered to Police Precinct 8, police reports said.*DMG
