Guv: Fishing at
lagoon now allowed

Fishing enthusiasts can now bring their rods to the Capitol Lagoon.

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon yesterday said that the public is now allowed to fish at Lagoon provided that they pay P30 for every kilo of tilapia that they catch.

It's time to open it to the public, he said, adding that the cost of every kilo of tilapia caught is only half of the P60 market price.

In the past, Lagoon regulars were only contented to feed the tilapias because it was the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist that harvested the tilapias and donated it to the Provincial Jail.

OPA then could harvest as much as 1,500 kilos.

Maraņon said those interested can start fishing now until the middle of January when Capitol will conduct a clean-up of the Lagoon.*NLG
