Submit formal complaint,
guv tells BRIS farmers

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon urged farmers using the Bago River Irrigation System to formally request him to intervene in the reported scheduled closure of the irrigation facility in summer next year.

Maraņon made the call in the wake of reports that the BRIS will be closed anew to allow its further repair and rehabilitation.

Personnel of the National Irrigation System in Bacolod City yesterday refused to confirm the report.

DOLE: No employee
will be displaced

The Department of Labor and Employment said that none of its employees will be displaced following the implementation of the government's rationalization program next year, a statement from DOLE said.

Acting Secretary Danilo Cruz said that the 100 employees who will reportedly lose their jobs are actually those who are planning to avail of the early retirement package.

The rationalization program is part of the government's efforts to improve its service delivery and efficiency by streamlining agencies through dissolution of redundant offices and posts and realignment of personnel. Cruz said that no one among the DOLE employees have been forced to retire due to rationalization, adding that those who hold redundant positions but do not wish to retire would only be realigned to essential positions that have been vacant or created under the rationalization program, the statement said.
