Bills of SEA Games
will be paid: Peping
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Philippine Olympics Committee president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco yesterday said bills incurred during the staging of the South East Asian Games will be paid.

He said delays in payments happen even in business, it is not something that should be made a big issue.

Funds needed for hotel bills and other expenses incurred during the SEA Games have yet to be released to Bacolod City and Cebu.

Cojuangco said there are also payments being awaited for bills incurred for equipment used during the SEA Games in Manila but they will be paid.

He said releases of funds from Malacaņang have been made directly to Bacolod and Cebu and did not pass through the Philippines SEA Games Organizing Committee.

Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella, who chaired the SEA Games in Bacolod, yesterday said all these problems will be resolved before the week ends.

Bacolod SEA Games Organizing Committee secretary general Eric Loretizo said the BASOC is expecting about P15.6 million.

PHILSOC has transmitted P8.9 million for the hotels bills during the SEA Games of athletes and their officials in Bacolod City, but there is a balance of about P12 million, which they are still waiting for, Loretizo said.

He said that the P2.8 million approved for the about 1,500 SEA Games volunteers in Bacolod City the PHILSOC has released P200,000 so far and reiterated that Puentevella had advanced payment of a contingency amount of P75 a day for each volunteer.

The release by PHILSOC of more than P1 million for the allowance of liaison officers and victory stewards during the SEA Games is also being awaited, he said.

The payment of P20 million by the Department of Public Works and Highways to Dynamic Builders for the rehabilitation of the Paglaum Sports Stadium is also being awaited, Loretizo said.*CPG
