Negros bishops-congressmen's
forum pushed
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra is pushing for the creation of a bishops-congressmen's conference in Negros Occidental as a venue for airing concerns of the people and to push for good governance, Fr. Aniceto Buenafe said yesterday.

Buenafe, head the Diocese of Bacolod Social Action Center, said a meeting was set Wednesday afternoon at the Bishop's Palace in Bacolod where the seven congressmen were invited.

However, only Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella showed up.

San Carlos Bishop Jose Advincula and Kabankalan Bishop Patrick Buzon were also unable to attend because of conflicts in schedule, Buenafe said.

Puentevella suggested that Gov. Joseph Maraņon be included in the group, Buenafe added.

The three bishops want to hear the positions of the seven congressmen on charter change before they come out with a collective statement on the matter, Buenafe said.

Navarra is opposed to Charter change through Constituent Assembly, he favors that it be done through a Constitutional Convention, Buenafe said.

Puentevella assured Navarra that he would get a copy of the recommendations of the Constitutional Commission on Charter change so that the bishops can study it, Buenafe added.*CPG
