Gun Club of Negros Occidental shooters showed world-class precision
and brought home three crowns in the Thailand International Practical
Shooting Confederation National Championship 2005 in Navamin, Chonburi
in Thailand.
Spearheading GCNO's campaign was its president Jannette Yulo-Gonzaga
who ruled the standard ladies' division.
Andy Gonzaga also gave honor to the Negros-based shooting
club after he grabbed the championship in the production division,
while Tootsie Anglo snared the standard shoot-off title.
Ralph Alvarez, son of Rep. Genaro Alvarez of the 6th District
who also competed in the shooting tournament, was also given recognition
after emerging as the youngest IPSC shooter in the world.
IPSC president Nick Alexakus, who awarded the younger Alvarez,
is considered to be the highest official in practical shooting in
the world.
The 10-year-old Alvarez, a Grade 4 student at St. Scholastica's
Academy, only started shooting almost two months ago and is being
trained by the veteran members of GCNO, Jannette Gonzaga said. Alvarez,
who prevailed over some Class A and B shooters, has also been a
motocross rider since he was three years old, she added.
The young GCNO sensation claimed the Philippine Motocross
Peewee Rider of the Year award in 2001, she said, adding that Alvarez
also became the national champion in his category when he was seven
years old.
The shooting hostilities, which is organized by Thailand every
December, was also competed by shooters from Malaysia, Indonesia,
Hongkong, Singapore, Russia, Germany and Taiwan. *CIT
