IN CANLAON CITY
Canadian national cries
harassment vs. officials

A Canadian national married to a Filipina in Canlaon City, Oriental Negros, criticized what he calls as blatant violations of human rights, intimidation, alleged connivance of city employees and officials against individuals they cannot work with.

Canadian Eduard Preston, who is married to Saysan Sol Nobleza of Canlaon City, challenged the leadership of Mayor Judith Cardenas to prove her worth as chief executive in solving the killings during her term.

Preston said he believes that somebody could be maintaining a private army in Canlaon City with the presence of so-called "warriors," who are out to run after, not only their political enemies, but have no regard to foreigners and the people.

Dumaguete cops double security for
Christmas, New Year revelries

The Philippine National Police in Dumaguete City will double security measures to protect visitors, shoppers, and churchgoers during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Dumaguete City chief of police, Chief Inspector Manuel Hidalgo, said he has ordered the double security alert, because of the possibility that the Oriental Negros Philippine National Police command would not be able to augment the city's limited force.

Hidalgo said he has assigned specific tasks for the city PNP's different units, particularly the intelligence section, to prevent the occurrence of crimes. Teams will be assigned to places where visitors and shoppers usually gather, he said.

Indian national shot dead

An Indian national was shot dead by still unidentified gunmen Wednesday while he was on his way home in Tubtubon, Sibulan town, Oriental Negros.

The victim, Kamal Kant, 45, who is married to a Filipina, succumbed to four gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Initial police investigations yesterday disclosed that Kant was on a red 200 XLR motorcycle when he was waylaid by two unidentified men near his home.

The backrider shot Kant at close range, causing his instant death.
